Lajna
For every building that still runs on a notebook

Everyone sees the same numbers.

One shared record of what your building collects and spends. Every charge shows the arithmetic behind it, every receipt is attached — and once it is published, nobody can quietly change it. Not even the person who wrote it.

Money never passes through the app. Residents pay the manager in cash, by OMT, by Whish, by transfer — exactly as they do today. Lajna writes it down.

The old way

One notebook. One pocket. Zero visibility.

Diesel, cleaning, the elevator contract, the guard's salary, water tanks — every building in Lebanon shares these costs, and almost every building tracks them the same way: cash in a drawer, figures in a notebook, arguments in a WhatsApp group.

  • Nobody outside the committee can see what was collected this month.
  • When a figure changes, there is no way to know it changed.
  • The wakil is suspected of pocketing money whether or not he deserves it — and he has no way to prove otherwise.
The bill arrives

Watch $490 of diesel split itself.

Keep scrolling. Six apartments, six different generator amperages, one bill — and the arithmetic written out where everyone can read it.

Total collected from six apartments $0.00

The shares add up to $490.02 — two cents more than the bill, because every share is rounded up rather than down. The app says so on the statement instead of hiding it. The two cents stays in the building's balance.

Four ways to be fair

Not every cost should be split the same way.

Diesel follows amperage. The guard is paid whether or not you are home. Four methods, chosen per expense, so the split matches what the money actually bought.

An empty apartment can pay less for diesel and water — a reduced share, not zero, and how much less is the building's own rule, set per cost, not the app's. In this example the building chose a half share. The guard and the elevator stay at full share — those cost the building the same whether anyone is living there or not.

Why it can be trusted

Paper can be rewritten. This cannot.

1

A mistake is corrected in the open, never erased.

Once an expense is published it stays published. If the amount was wrong, it is cancelled with a written reason and entered again correctly. The original stays on the page, struck through, for as long as the building exists.

This is the difference between a record and a draft. A manager who makes an honest mistake can prove it was honest.

“Did he really buy $490 of diesel?” is answered by a photograph.

The manager photographs the fuel slip when he pays. The photo stays attached to that line forever, and every resident can open it from their phone — not request it, not wait for someone to forward it to the group.

It is a small thing that removes an enormous amount of suspicion.

3

When a month ends, it is finished.

A closed month is sealed. Nothing can be added, removed, or recalculated inside it. A statement read in July says exactly the same thing when it is opened again in December.

If something from a closed month needs fixing, the correction is entered in the current month, pointing back at the original line. The closed month itself never changes — everyone can read both the fix and the reason.

Made for the stairwell

Built for a man collecting cash on the fourth floor.

The person who keeps the notebook is often between 55 and 70 and has never trusted an app with the building's money. So the app assumes a weak signal, a mid-range phone, and no patience for clutter.

Each person signs in with their own phone number and password, and picks their own language. A father and daughter in the same apartment: two accounts, one apartment, the same numbers.

Works with no internet

Collections recorded offline are held on the phone, clearly marked as not sent, and go up the moment a connection returns.

Nothing about paying changes

Cash, OMT, Whish, bank transfer — the building keeps paying the way it already does. There is no bank account, wallet, or card to set up, because the money never touches the app.

Worth being plain about

What it will never do.

  • Hold your money.

No wallet, no balance sitting anywhere, nothing to withdraw.

  • Move your money.

Residents pay the manager the way they always have. The app records that it happened.

  • Replace the manager.

Somebody still buys the diesel and chases the payments. He just gets a record he can stand behind.

  • Let anyone rewrite history.

    Including the manager. Including us.

Two people have to want this

The one who keeps the record, and everyone who has to believe it.

What we want the wakil el binaye to think when he sees it — a man accused of something he did not do, with nothing but a notebook to defend himself: This would end the arguments.

And what the resident on the third floor should finally be able to say — after paying every month for eleven years without once seeing the total: Finally, I can see it.

Bring it to your building.

Lajna is being set up with a small number of buildings in Lebanon. If you keep the accounts for yours, we will walk through the first month with you.

One tap opens WhatsApp with your message written and ready — nothing is sent until you press send.
